Adrien Billon, Commercial Director and group ExCom member of Carrus Group

Your first impression after your election at the Board of the World Tote Association at the end of August 2024?

I am deeply honored to join the Board of the World Tote Association. It’s a recognition of the Carrus Group’s commitment to innovation and excellence in the Pari Mutuel industry. My first impression was one of excitement and anticipation, as I see enormous potential for collaboration among members to shape the future of our industry. I also appreciate the diversity of perspectives on the Board, which strengthens WoTA’s ability to address global challenges effectively.

WoTA provides an invaluable platform for fostering global collaboration, sharing best practices, and promoting innovation across the industry. For HAHE and Carrus, WoTA can offer insights into emerging trends, access to a global network of operators, and opportunities to engage in meaningful dialogues on technology and regulation. This will enable us to stay at the forefront of delivering secure, entertaining, and seamless betting experiences.

What can WoTA do differently to become more relevant for operators like HAHE and Carrus?

WoTA could focus more on driving industry-wide technological standards to ensure interoperability among operators worldwide. Establishing forums for sharing data-driven insights and customer behavior analytics would be another valuable step. Additionally, emphasizing sustainability and responsible gaming practices can enhance the relevance of WoTA by aligning with the priorities of operators like HAHE and Carrus.

What are the most important challenges facing Carrus in 2025?

In 2025, the primary challenges for Carrus will include navigating rapidly evolving regulatory landscapes, integrating advanced technologies like AI and blockchain to improve operational efficiency, and meeting changing consumer expectations in a competitive market. Additionally, maintaining a balance between innovation and the core values of CSR will be critical.

What kind of relationship do you have with other Pari Mutuel operators in other part of the world?

Our relationship with other operators is built on collaboration and mutual respect. We provide global solutions to operators and are happy to actively exchange ideas, share best practices, and work on joint initiatives to enhance the Pari Mutuel industry globally. Whether through formal partnerships or collaborative forums like WoTA, these relationships allow us to learn from each other and create value for our customers.

Where do you see Carrus Group in a 10 – 15 years perspective?

In 10 to 15 years, I envision Carrus Group as a global leader in the betting and racing sector, recognized for its technological innovation, commitment to CSR, and ability to deliver unparalleled customer experiences. By investing in cutting-edge technologies and nurturing strategic partnerships, we aim to expand our reach and adapt to the dynamic landscape of the industry.

What do you do when you are not the Commercial Director of Carrus?

When I’m not focused on my role at Carrus, I enjoy spending quality time with my family, my wife and 3 kids. I also resumed my studies a year ago and am currently pursuing a specialized Master’s degree in Strategic Management, which I expect to complete by June next year. Returning to academia after 20 years has been incredibly fulfilling for me, as it has introduced me to new techniques and significantly expanded my professional network. I am also passionate about sports, particularly running, triathlon, skiing, and hiking.

Please tell us what is your best memory of a sport (horseracing or other) event you have attended?

One of my fondest memories is Zarkava, a three-year-old filly, won the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in 2008. Ridden by Christophe Soumillon, Zarkava solidified her status as an undefeated champion, with a perfect record of seven wins in seven races. The energy of the crowd, the beauty of the horses, and the culmination of months of preparation by the teams behind the scenes were truly awe-inspiring. It reminded me of the profound impact that horse racing has not only as a sport but as a cultural and social event.
