WoTA members met in London during ICE Gambling event where they discussed plans for the organisation for 2024. This included a potential modification of the by-laws and future participation at the Asian Racing Conference in Sapporo, Japan in August.
The World Tote Association is also launching the research for an important political report which will be published in May 2024. The report intends to clearly explain the necessity for differentiation of tax on betting on horseracing from other online gambling due to the deep connections to horseracing, as well as the radically lower levels of gambling harm from pari mutuel betting compared to other forms of gambling. Furthermore, it will reflect on why pari mutuel betting operators are an integral and necessary part of the horseracing ecosystem, contributing to positive economic and social outcomes from horseracing, and hence different from other gambling operators.
The drinks reception following the meeting for members and partners was a successful event with 45 people attending.
